Rather than following the competition and creating a plastic phone with a small physical keyboard and clunky software, Apple went for a single, large multitouch screen, paired with simple and easy to understand operating system. Almost every smartphone released since follows this same trend, and a market that was once dominated by Blackberry, is now dominated by Apple, Samsung and Google.
It’s now not unusual for Apple to implement a feature long after its competitors. However, additions like iMessage, Touch ID and Face Time prove that being first isn’t always as important as being best.
